Annie Sailer offers individual instruction in body mechanics and awareness for dancers, practitioners of Yoga, fitness and athletic disciplines, working with teachers as well as students of all ages. Some of the issues that may be addressed include hip socket, knee, ankle, and foot relationship; turn-out, posture (pelvis / ribcage / head / spine relationship), lower back tightness, joint mobility, and muscular support for movement in pelvis and up the front of the spine. Sessions with Annie offer insights into one’s experience of their body, expanding self-awareness and a sense of new movement possibilities. These insights and physical experiences pave the way for injury-free movement and performance in whatever discipline one may be involved in. For students, correcting basic postural and movement problems is an essential part of training, without which development is limited and injuries are likely. This work provides teachers not only with growth in their own practice, but with new angles in which to effectively communicate fundamental information to their own students.
A series of ten sessions would include a discussion of the student’s goals, an in depth analysis by Annie of the student’s skeletal alignment and movement habits, and guided correction and retraining of inefficient movement patterns through explanations of principles of movement, use of imagery, hands-on guidance (with student’s permission), the recognition by the student of the incorrect habits and understanding of the correct alternatives, their replacements with the correct ones followed by repeated practice of specific exercises and application of the new habits to additional stationary and traveling movements.
